I'm removing a dented gas tank from my 1929 Coupe to replace it with a better one. I thought you would like to see all the holes drilled in my firewall somewhere along 90 years of various owners. Wondering what in the heck they were used for. See photo.

Also, when I removed the gas tank clamps, I had no idea what the four brackets with holes in them are for. I never saw anything like a wire or anything before I dismantled the car. See photo.

Maybe some of the holes and the brackets for a Water cabin heater, mounting and running the water lines?

I know that when I got the car, it had a push button and solenoid that powered the starter. Some of the holes are from that. Never had a water cabin heater that I know of....but in Alaska that would have been nice. Here in Nevada, an air conditioner would be nice.

If your "brackets with the holes" were under the tank I 'think' the brackets are to routed the cowl light wiring from the drivers side to the passenger side. I may be wrong but my Town Sedan has similar brackets and that is where the wiring is routed. rubber grommets are in the holes.

They are handy if you have a use for them.

That bracket most likely for either cowl light wire, there would have been a grommet in it, or wiper motor. Did your car have a vacuum or electric wiper? Also the bracket towards the front would have had a loop to hold the top of the panel. There should have been such a bracket for both sides.

Tom W. has a nice picture showing the looped kick panel retainer up next to the firewall.

My truck has two on each side.

The one in our Sport Coupe had "saw-teeth" all around the circumference - somebody had drilled a bunch of holes in a more-or-less circle, then knocked out the center.

I remember redoing the 31 AA truck cowl,- 51- holes including a 2" and an 11/2".
Took a long time and a whole bunch of plugs to bring her back to stock.
We figured the original Unit had a Hydraulic pump off the cam gear but not sure.
