Default 1930 Tudor Door Window Removal

I replaced my door windows and thought other people might want to see how the door top comes apart to allow for window removal.
Hope this is helpful to people who are looking at doing this.

GeneBob, Thank you so much. This PDF format will be very help full trying to remove my drive side window so I can get it replaced. However, as of yesterday I inherited another issue with my 1930 Tudor. Started it up and it was running great, when I went to re-start it latter I got a grinding sound I believe from the started. Like gears grinding. Have a feeling the engager is worn. I sure hope its not my fly wheel. Any suggestions? Thanks Tony from WNY.

The ring gear can come off its land.
In other words, the ring gear on the flywheel moves.

Along with Brentwood Bob's response, I would start be removing the starter to check the bendix drive. Maybe your starter gear is not disengaging as the engine fires up. There is a modern drive gear set up available as well as parts to rebuild the original. It may be a broken spring on the drive or it may only need some sube.

Thanks guys, much appreciated. Since I do not know too much about my car I noticed a model A club that is not too far from my house in Buffalo, NY. Will be calling them tomorrow to join and ask questions about where to take my car for service and possibly get educated. I really want to start enjoining my vehicle while ensuring I am doing every correctly on routine maintenance. Thanks again from WNY!

Hi Gene,
Do you happen to have a write up on replacing the window channels on a 1929 Fordor leatherback(Briggs) or any advice? I need to tackle all 4 doors this winter. The interior is in great shape so I'm concerned most about messing up the interior door panels.

Ken,
I only have my 1930 Tudor. I could not find any information online to prepare me for changing the windows out. The guys at Bert's Model A store in Denver gave me some tips on the removal and replacement. That is why I put this "paper" on Fordbarn; to pass along some of the things I found.
Best of luck, just remember, someone had to put this all together on an assembly line so there is a way to do it.

Excellent article. I own a 30 Tudor and replaced all the window felt. The rear side windows are a real challenge. This is a two person job. I tried putting the felt channel in first then the window, no good! I ended up putting the glass in first then fighting with the channel, using baby powder as a lube for the glass to slide in the channel. I screwed small flat-head screws at the channel base to keep it in place. Hope this helps some, and Keep Driving that "A". LRF

Thanks Gene. It looks like the interior upholstery panel will need to come out first on my 29 Fordor.

I am glad that my records of my experiences can help others.
lrf, I put a paper on the Fordbarn for the rear Tudor windows as well.

ossieandgeorge, replacing windows generally starts with removing upholstery. I was hoping that wasn't the case before I started but learned pretty quickly that you spend much more time trying to avoid upholstery removal than you spend just committing to it.
