Default Brake adjust wedge stuck

I am trying to remove the front brake adjusting wedge and it seemed there was a lip where it would get stuck. I ended up hammering it out to get past the lip.

Anyone run into this before? We're some wedges oversized for the whole?

If you turn in the wedge and run out of threads to push the cover off, then just tap the square end with a punch and hammer. I've had to do this a few times. I haven't done any in years, so I can't say what time period the parts were from.

Tom gave you good advice and the lowdown on removing them the proper way. Some of the older 80's repro's that had kind of a gold alloy plating were actually oversize in od of the wedge. They were terribly made and had to be ground down to fit the hole. The originals were preferred if you could use them or obtain.

The new repros are excellent and do well. Always make sure you chase the threads and clean the cavity before installing. Once installed you can tap the cap back in and lightly pen the edges back over to hold it in.

Just one job on a full brake job... I do them all the time.

Thanks - perhaps the one side is a repro then and the circumference is a bit oversize. The other one I had came out with no issue.
