Re: Speedometer help
sounds like you are trying to use the wrong cable.
The oval speedometer cable end is larger than most other cables, Most universal replacement cables will be too small and slip. |

Re: Speedometer help
That is worth a try as long as your main shaft turns easily.

Re: Speedometer help
I had bought a new cable from Snyders for an Oval. But I think you are right. I can't believe all three are stripped out.

Re: Speedometer help
Chuck a small dowel rod into a drill and see if you can make the speedometer register speed. I think you need to have the drill running in reverse - ‘unscrewing’

Re: Speedometer help
Yes, it does work. You are right on reverse. Although, going forward is like in reverse. It will not hurt speedo.

Re: Speedometer help
Look at the pictures above.
The oval cable will have ends crimped on both ends, and the square will measure from .120" to .125" or about 1/8". The round cable will not have any ends on it and is simply squeezed to make it square. the square end will measure about .100" The hole in the gear is only square in the bottom half, the first half is round then you get to the square at the bottom. Make sure it is not full of dirt keeping the cable from going all the way in, or make sure your cable is not oversize or has a bur on the end keeping it from going all the way in. A stripped out square hole in a gear is not a common problem. |

Re: Speedometer help
Thank you, I will check in the morning. I sprayed Brake Clean in and blew out with air hose. It feels like the cable end I had cut off from a broken cable is seating all the way. I tend to think you are right that it would be uncommon for all three to be stripped. Should I call Snyder and ask a tech?
