Default Replacement Model B Head

My 1929 Coupe has a Model B head on the 1929 engine. Would this have been done to improve performance (slightly higher compression of 4.6 vs. 4.22 for the original head), or perhaps because the standard heads were no longer available when replacement was required?

I'm contemplating replacing the B head with a high compression (5.5/1) head to improve hill-climbing capability. However, that will require an original style (4 bolt) water pump and water fittings. Do you think that there would there be a noticeable improvement in performance sufficient to justify the investment?

Thanks - Bill

Talking Re: Replacement Model B Head

Is your engine in sound condition? Do you like to smile?

Put on the higher compression head and don't look back. This upgrade will give the best bang for the buck as far as bolt on accessories go.

Many others will probably agree. Hope this helps.

Peace, Phred
