Default Using 600W instead of grease or thinner oil

I have decided to try 600W oil on the bearing for the service brake cross shaft and the accellerator assembly on back of engine because it needs to flow into the bearing shaft interfaces and remain there. I can't get grease into the brake shaft easily and the oil usually recommended for the accellerator assembly is too thin and will run out. Anything wrong with this thinking? Bill G

Those of us in the steam engine crowd quickly learn to "compound" about 30W oil with about half STP - this to give the oil more "stay-put" ability on a open-crankcase non splash lubricated parts machine.

The machine is wont to throw oil around the engine room making work for the oilers to clean it up with rags otherwise.

The same thought might give you the unique combination of stick and flow necessary for continued lubrication too?

If you have a chain saw the bar oil is sticky, that might work.

600 should stay better and work OK. I like heavy 600 for certain places, like the pivots for the ammeter needle, steering box, and the places you mentioned.

Use motorcycle chain lube. Seems to me the perfect blend of flow/tack.

Wurth HHS2000

Creeps into the smallest gaps, then thickens up. It turns into one of those "stringy" oils - I used to show it off by spryaing it into my palm, waiting for it to thicken, then clapping my hands with the oil/grease forming strings between my two hands. It's almost as runny as WD40 to start with though.

Bob C hit it, I use Chainsaw Bar and Chain oil whenever I need a metal on metal, but not Extreme Pressure, lube to stay put. It is very stringy. I use it on linkages for field implements and it gives a barrier like grease, but flows. It is also easy to clean up with a light solvent. Folks around here mix it a bit with a solvent, then spray it on undercarriages of their cars. The solvent evaporates, and leaves the sticky oil. A trip down a Dusty gravel road leaves a very good chassis rust protection behind.
