Default Running Board Step Install

Wondering about the recommended spot on the running board for installation of step plates. On my coupe they are roughly centered with the doors. However, it seems like this is too far back for my pickup. When I position them relative to where my foot lands when backing into the door, the plate looks to be too far forward on the running board. What have you done in this regard?

If you place it anywhere other than where you step it is strictly cosmetic and not functional!

Perhaps you could step in some water then get into the truck. Where ever you leave a wet foot print, put the plate there.

this is a slippery slope, start with a step plate, end up chopped, channeled with some chevrolet V8...'well it is where it suits me"..blasphemy I say, recite the restoration guide/judging standard till you've washed such sin from your soul..

That’s what I was thinking, function over esthetics. It does look strange though. So far I haven’t been able to find any guidance in the “Standards”. Not a first there, they don’t cover everything.

Take your shoe off and step on your running board in your sock feet. This will let you know where your usual step is on the running board!

I usually avoid most accessories unless they don't show and improve performance in some way .

I usually step over the running boards when entering and exiting (long legs) so for me they are fruitless. So I really can not help with positioning.

But they were on the car when I bought it. Not original but part of the car's history that I have mentioned in the past so they stay. And I do like the looks of them.

Same here. They would not be of use on my car. Lot’s of folks use them though.
