Deltran Power Tender, 6V, red to POS black to NEG

When first hooked up, will be a steady RED while it reads the battery. When it gets to an 80% charge, will start blinking the GREEN light. Red light still a steady light at the same time.

When reaches full charge, RED light goes out GREEN light quits blinking and stays a steady green. You have arrived.

I did have a battery with a dead cell a few years ago, where the red light kept blinking and the green never did come on. Even after 24 hours. Checked the battery, it was toast wouldn't take a charge, ran to Farm King got another 6V Type 1 for 40 bucks and back off to the races.

Redneck,

Borrow a Load Tester and load test your battery to determine if is is bad. The load tester will let you know if it is rechargeable.

What is the 'brand' name of the trickle charger you have?

Recently I had a 180 amp 12volt battery that was as flat as a pancake. I attached a battery conditioner (tender?).....it blinked red for four days and then suddenly went to green . After another four days it was fully charged

Are you just being impatient ?

My trickle chargers do the same thing if the battery is very low. I then hook up my regular charger for a short time. Then hook up the trickle charger and it is solid red as it should be meaning it is charging. You cant charge a dead battery with the trickle charger.

I leave my tender on 24/7. I only remove it when I'm going to use something. I have them on my ATV, riding lawnmower, and my 1949 Farmall cub tractor. They always start.

I put a schumacker battery tender on our 38 conv with a ford script battery, didn't check it for a while, supposed to work automatically, when I checked it the battery was boiled dry and charger still on, put new acid in battery it would never start the car, I called the company, they said all they would do was to repair the charger if I would send it to them post paid, I said no thanks..bought another battery, don't leave them on anymore

Same thing happened to me. I have a lot of stuff with batteries that I store year around (boats, cars, motorcycles, etc.) and have them all connected through a cheap timer that I got at K-Mart. It turns the maintainers on for 15 minutes twice a day. This prevents over-charging, but is enough to keep the batteries "up". (I arrived at the required time through trial and error, watching the lights on the mainitainers.)

I hook up the charger and it blink red for a few minutes then went red. I was surprised so I left it on and it took two days charging to turn green. I did learn something if it blinks red just leave it on and it might go to a steady red. Thanks for all your help.

I'm thinking if it takes that long for the trickle charger to do it's thing, I'd do a load test on the battery you must have a dead/dying cell. It will leave you stranded one of these days. Better and easier to replace it at home in your garage.

Redneck I don't blame you at all, about being afraid to leave that charger on all the time. I am leary of it too.

Some guys plug it into a timer, that only comes on like once a week for a few hours then shuts off.
