Default The Noel Bullock Special, Seeking info and Photos

Does any one have any pictures of Noel Bullocks special that beat the big boys at Pike Peak in 1922. I am wanting to build one similar to it in the future. I have a bunch of left over parts from previous projects and figured I could put them to good use.

here's a link about Noel and his special:
http://www.nwvs.org/Technical/MTFCA/...esPeak1922.pdf

These are the only pics I can really find but they are not very clear. I would especially like one of the chassis ,cleaner sharper image would be awesome...

Noel's story sound a lot like Burt Munro's story with his motorcycle exploits at Bonneville Salt Flat in 1960's.

I've got everything for it except a good radiator. I just need a few better photo's to see how it lowered front and rear, fuel tank location, and seat mounts. my buddy Clayton (MrModelT) and I are talking about building replica of it.

Any other info out there would be greatly appreciated.

Good luck with the build, I'll be following it on the HAMB, don't want to double post my replies. I think there was info in The Vintage Ford many years ago.

Great story enjoyed reading it. In my youth I water ski raced. Won the 50 mile Ct. river race in a home made boat with A HEMI Chrysler engine. Sure did open the eyes of the factory teams. Frank pkny

The car was on display at the Pike's Peak racing museum a few years ago and I got some somewhat revealing photos of it. Somewhere I read Noel Bullock's personal account of his career and the building of the "special". If I come across it, I'll pass it along it to you. Do you have a Rajo head or Warford tranny for it? ( Those items could be added later on) The car was rated at 50HP and my guess is that it weighed maybe a thousand pounds. I used to drive British sports cars that had much lower power-to-weight ratios than that! It would be a thrill to drive and a fascinating piece to build. I would love to help as an advisor or with any of the construction. JH www.olympic-speedsters.com

In the above photo it seems that the axels were not lowered. Could this be?

Jim I don't have a RAJO but I do have McMillan head which is a somewhat modified copy of a RAJO BB. I used my spare Warford transmission on my dad's speedster which we are currently finishing (hopefully before Christmas), but I do have a Rocky Mountain 6 speed a set of Houck wire wheels and hubs, as well as a complete Rckstell 2 speed rear with 2.77:1 ring and pinion set. Frank Noel's car was lowered not by which way as there several ways they did back then. Here's how Clayton and I are doing dad's car now...

1968 Vedero Green (GTO with a little hard yellow toner) Pinstripes are Safety Orange. We designed it look like a baby 1913 Mercer T-35.My dad worked for Harrah's car collection back in 60's and 70's and he was painting his 1913 White touring car this green in a solid I wanted to do this car in metallic hence Vedero green. I'll have dad's car to our shop Friday evening so we can finish it before Christmas.

Clayton (MrModelt) and I were building this car for my dad as a Christmas gift for him this year. Dad unfortunately passed away on Oct 13. We will be finishing in honor of him.

I gooled Nole Bullock and read all I could. Very intresting story. Thanks for the post. They [the factory guys] got their a## whiped by a Ford T so they had the rules changed so they did not have to compete with him again. Hum Go figure. !!!! He added babbit to the bottom to make the weight class. after the rule change but I don't know what happened because the story dropped off the screen. Frank pkny

Frank,
from what read after he tried the '23 hill climb he moved to Los Angles with his car the last the car was seen was 1926. He could have used it on the dry lakes who knows, I'd like to think that could have happened! Possible loss to the ww2 scrap drives. While in California he started his airline and was killed when he crash landed in the Pacific Ocean while en route to Mexico with 6 others.

I'm sure you all are more aware of this than myself, but I just learned that this car is a replica built by Rick Rawlins using some of the original parts, including the engine and wheels.
