Can any one tell me what this tranny is out of ?

3 speed overdrive, T86 F1, R10 overdrive
main drive 23 splines.....output shaft....26 splines

my guess from the books I have are from a full size 57-58 Ford car ? Can some one verify this ?

BW made transmissions and overdrive units for many brands of cars. Even if it has a Ford bolt pattern, there are different tail housings and mounting differences. It is hard to tell for sure with the info provided.

I'm far from an authority on identifying transmissions, but knowing the bolt pattern and the distance from the face that mounts to the bell housing to the rear mount would be starters. I have a trans from a '57 that I could compare the measurements. A picture would help the real experts on here.

The 23 spline main drive gear was introduced in 1958 passenger car models. This was the BW overdrive trans coupled to the six cyl and small V8 engines. Used to mid 60's I think.

the distance from the front of the tranny case to the center of the hole in the mounting ears is 13 1/8 "

the books that I have also suggest it is from 57-58 Ford...I have a 55 and a 56 tranny and they are side loaders with course splines and this is a top loader with fine splines...will try to post a picture in the near future...thanks and keep the input coming....john
