HELP!1969 Mk1 Escort
Hey guys,
I recently bought a mk1 escort that came fitted with a 1600cc Crossflow Engine. All was going fine up until around a month ago when it developed a slight miss. Over the course of 1 hour it got worse and worse till the car was not drive able. I replaced the points and that fixed the problem for about a week, until a slight miss occurred again, this time only getting bad enough to be annoying. I went about replacing a few things, i replaced the spark plugs, spark plug leads, dizzy cap, condenser, and rotor. This fixed the problem for about a week until yet again it started missing!! I then replaced the coil and coil lead, this fixed the problem for 2 days and then once again the miss came back . I have taken the carby off and had it all cleaned etc and nothing is blocked up there... Tonight i cleaned the points , it drove well for about 2 minutes then the miss came back, got home and the points were black... could it be the condenser? has anyone had similar problems? What else is there? |

Re: HELP!1969 Mk1 Escort
Alright so i replaced the condenser as you said, that fixed the miss! it runs sweet now. The other one was new not that long ago but it must of been a crappy one?
Now.. when i turn the car off after driving, it seems to run on for half a second, makes a loud noise and sounds like it turns over before dieing, what would that be? thanks a lot |

Re: HELP!1969 Mk1 Escort
it may be dieseling, a lot of carbon on pistons and valves that get real hot when driven and glow just enought to ignite what fuel is drawn in when engine is shut down, maybe ignition is set to far advanced when shutting down, on our flat heads with that problem we would idle engine at 1200 or 1500 rpm and drizzle water down the carb to remove carbon, it works just, look at a cylinder or head that has had a water leak, its as clean as a whistle, how many miles on engine is it burning oil? or it could be this damn poor fuel the government dictates us to use
