Default Timing chain cover

I now have obtained all the correct parts, ie pulleys brackets and water pump for my 1969 351 W. Before I start re-installing the parts I have a few questions. the harmonic balancer appears to be origional, should I replace it? and what about pulling the timing chain cover and inspecting the gears and chain? I also will be replacing the electric puel pump with a manuel one, doing this would allow me to inspect the ecentric. The engine runs strong so I have no intention of pulling it and doing a rebuild anytime soon,
Thanks for your thoughts, Steve

Hard to say without knowing the history of the engine... but if it is of unknown age/mileage to YOU, than I would suggest you replace it for your piece of mind, if nothing else.

The engines from that time period often has a plastic wrapper on the top gear. After years of service, it is good to change to metal gears. The plastic would chunk off, get in the oil pump, and wreck good engines. They were quiet when new though - - - -
