Default Appropriate weight gear oil for '68 4 speed top loader?

Would 140 weight be to heavy to use in my '68 4 speed top loader?

Maybe not , depends on the conditions it is used. David Kee ,toploader transmissions inc. recommends . Most climates and conditions every day driving 75W-90 . Heavy duty use and or hot conditions 80W-140. I have always used 80W - 140 .

Blue Futura, thanks for responding. The top loader is behind a small V-8 that would be just a driver and not a racer, live in the desert and temp. can get up to 110 in the summer. Sounds like 80-140W might work for me also?

Yes , in those conditions i would use it. If in the northern cold states i would use the lighter weight. I live in a 4 seasons area and the heavy grade works for me year around.
