6V low pressure fuel pump
I am looking for a good reliable 6V low pressure fuel pump for my PU. I have used an E8011 for years for priming only, but it is 5-8 PSI. I'm looking for something in the range of 2.5 to 3 PSI. Does such an animal exist or am I going to have to go with a pressure regulator? If so, recommendations, please. Thanks guys.

Re: 6V low pressure fuel pump
Will the mechanical pump be able to draw through it?

Re: 6V low pressure fuel pump
Thanks guys. I ordered an Airtex E8902, today. Just what I was looking for. Will be laying on my back installing it as soon as it gets here. There sure is a great group of knowledgeably people here on the barn to help out an old guy who's slowly realizing how much he has forgotten over the years. I appreciate it very much.

Re: 6V low pressure fuel pump
Lawson,
In the box with the 97 is one of my fuel pumps....tested at 2 psi. You will NOT require an elect pump providing your delivery from the tank to the pump is air tight. I use the same pump on my '32 & '41 p'ups both big inch motors and run hard. The box goes out in the morning. Charlie ny |

Re: 6V low pressure fuel pump
After you bought this one, you couldn't afford to buy gas for it to pump.

Re: 6V low pressure fuel pump
I'm with Charlie. When I finally figured out that the "providing your delivery from the tank to the pump is air tight", all of my problems went away (my problem was leaking gasket on the sediment bowl; cork, for some reason, seems top work better than neoprene).
I removed the electric fuel pump a couple of years later and never looked back. I will post the caveat that, since I spend my summers 20 miles north of Brainerd, I don't routinely experience of the conditions a lot of you do. |

Re: 6V low pressure fuel pump
The only reason I consider adding an electric fuel pump to my 52 Merc is to avoid having to prime the carburetor every time it sits for more than a few days. Yes, I fixed the leaky sediment bowl gasket but the carb still leaks gas. I know, I need to fix that too.

Re: 6V low pressure fuel pump
Not sure why fuel pumps have been giving trouble over the past few years. Back in the day you could buy an electric pump from western auto for 9.95 install it and forget about it. Last forever. However by the end of the last Molina, electric fuel pumps became the bain of the old cars and using the rebuild stock ones became the norm. My old truck electric fuel pump finally pooped out and after replacing several of them ( Average every 6 mos) I replaced the gas tang and went with an internal pump and gauge. Truck never had a working gauge so this solved both problems. So far????????
