Default Looking for Tom Endy or Tom Wesenberg

Toms, One of you posted a pic once of a tool you made to compress the spring at the lower end of the control rods for throttle and advance. I am trying to assemble my little control arms and I can't compress the springs to reach the holes for the pins. Could you post the picture again please?

Thanks Bill G

Slip a suitable sized deep socket on the end and push. Worked for me.

Here you are. If I made another one I'd use the needle nose Vise Grip shown.

Thanks Tom and Rusty. I'll try the deep socket first. Bill G

I think that's real neat. I suspect that the same basic idea can be used to construct a Valve spring compressor for installing or removing the valve springs.

That's an awesome tool... Glad I took a year of welding in high school back in the day --suspect with my Model A I might be needing to hone up those skills.

I got a buddy to help after three attempts and some "angry" words.

Thanks guys! The picture doesn't show it too well but the washer next to the steering column has a sharp bevel on the outer points to help it slide under the spring. The pliers was from the dollar store and barely overcenters for locking. I wasn't sure how well the tool was going to work, so I didn't want to weld on a good Vice Grip brand, but now that I know it's a good tool I might make another one a little neater by using the long nose Vice Grip plier shown.

Great tool Tom! Maybe we need to start a new thread for special purpose tools made or purchased by model A'rs.
I'll bet we would have pages of them and a great help to those of us new to the Model A.
I have made tools for other cars, and would hate to struggle over another for the Model A that has already been made and tested. "The proof is in the pudding"
