Zephyr Rear Brake Cylinder Mod.
Putting new brake lines on my '40, I find that the 15/16" rear cylinder input is smaller than the 1/4" lines. The formerly best shops in this valley no longer have a clue about Bendix drum brakes. I would settle for an adapter to use my 1/4" lines and move on with it. They really don't even want to talk to me about it. Some may ask, why not use the 1" wheel cylinders as Zephyr rears originally had? Years past when doing Zephyr brakes the counter always knew what I needed and deep thinking was not needed. Now when we go shopping for parts we need to educate the staff, who want to know if my old car has air conditioning or power brakes. Even worse they declare, they have nothing for that car. Plan B may be to find the elusive 15/16" wheel cylinders with the proper 1/4" input.
Kicking the can down the road, any numbers for the 1" or even better, 15/16" Bendix rear wheel cylinders? Had I put the big question at the top, we may have missed the rant. Thanks: Fred A |

You're a funny guy, Fred! I'm sorry that I don't have any brilliant answers for your very legitimate question, but you DO have a way with words. Because of logistics and distance, I'm pretty sure that we'll never do it, BUT...I do believe that I'd probably enjoy the shit out of sittin'-down and drinkin' a couple of beers with you! DD . |

Re: Zephyr Rear Brake Cylinder Mod.
Big brain on that Brian! Ordered four online in case of a future misfit. For decades I have found that the 15/16" bore rear cylinders delays the premature loss of rear traction for our old cars. Thanks to Brian, God, and Free Shipping. Fred A
