Intermittent start
So I have some electrical gremlin in my 1952 ford f1,I would turn key and hit my start switch, sometime it works and sometimes not, when it wouldn't my dome light would go off as I turn the key to on.Now it doesn't work at all and I hear a noise and my battery voltmeter jumps. I thought one of my circuit breakers where going out...so I replaced with other used ones,no change.I am open to suggestions!!

Re: Intermittent start
Wire brush all your electrical connections, make them clean, tight, bright.

Re: Intermittent start
Well it was a short that was getting power from the switch,it was my instrument voltage regulator, I been having problems getting a good one, they last about a year,I was wondering if the power I was drawing off was fine since I have a generator? I don't have this problem in my 67 bronco, that has one..........

Re: Intermittent start
A lot of the old Ford starting circuits aren't even tied in with the ignition switch. They will turn over with the key off but they won't start. The ignition is tied in with the switch.
The push button is the ground so it has to have a clean connection to the dash. If the battery cable to the solenoid or the battery ground cable are crusty then there could be a problem there. The large conductor wire from the solenoid to the starter also could have a crusty connection or a corrosion problem. Check and clean all connections is the first action. A solenoid test would be the next. |
