B timing?
I have been timing my stock B engine just like an A. It has the proper gear cover, dist. etc. Since the overall dist. advance is not as much as an A, should I be adjusting the rotor farther advanced toward the center of #1 or have the points break just as it meets it the #1 pin. E.G., as I running too retarded for the stock B dist.? Hope I'm not being too confusing.
Thanks as always, Pete |

Re: B timing?
If you have the correct B timing cover, then the timing pin location already gives you some advance, as it isn't TDC like the A cover.

Re: B timing?
Yes I think that B location is about 9 deg. advance which should be ok. Full advance is 28 deg. I believe

Re: B timing?
Thanks guys. I thought the built in advance would have taken care of the issue but never saw any specifics on the exact placement of the rotor vs. the A.

Again, referring to the Vince Falter's website, the B cover sets the timing at 9.5 degrees camshaft or 19 degrees crankshaft advance. Last edited by just plain bill; 06-30-2012 at 06:02 PM. |

Re: B timing?
Also, you can fine tune the timing by moving the breaker plate several degrees from the center position on the plate.

Re: B timing?
I checked Vince's cite again and except the the degree "fine tune" adj., it looks like it's the same as the A.
Thanks Again, Pete |
