Default measuring VR output

Hi all,

I went searching but could not find out how to measure if the VR is charging. I installed a new Bat. and followed the directions of the man. (funconcepts) but the ammeter does not show a charge.

The directions are roughly as follows:
-Move third brush counterclockwise start car with lights on and bring to a high rev. I should see a 7-9 amp discharge. RESULT: 6 amp drop.

-Move third brush clockwise until I get a 8-11 amp charge. RESULT: 0 charge and 6 amp discharge with lights on.

I did not proceed as I did not want to run the bat. down. I figure I can check the voltage at the bat. and then the amps at the junction box. Am I missing something here? I am not an electrical guru by any stretch of the imagination.

Mike

I assume when you say VR you mean voltage regulator. A voltage reulator doesn't charge, it only controls the charge from the generator. Did the generator work OK, before the regulator was installed? Have you talked to John Regan about it?

When I picked it up from the shop they were able to see that it was charging. I think they even tried to use the Voltage Reg. It sounds like I will have to call the company to make sure I am doing everythin correctly.
