Best luck would be used I would think. Have you checked ebay? Should be a lot more good oil pans than good blocks!

Truck pan with a clean out or a car pan? I've got a couple of each but I'm in SoCal so shipping might be a deal killer. If you can't find one closer to home PM me if you're interested. I'm going to take them to the swap meet in Sacramento on the 16th of this month but I doubt I'll sell them all.

You could check with Ray Helgers in RI, 401 635 4849, he has a bunch of used ones.

Be aware that there are several types of oil pans that fit this block. The truck type with rear sump was mentioned. The Ford car type has a center sump pan style, and the Mercury cars have a rear sump type that is shorter than the pick up type. There are other ones in the later 50s cars/pickups but they aren't too much different with exception to the long sump 53 pickup type. It depends on what you want the motor to fit into as to the choice you make.

Also, try "Shoebox Central". I've gotten a lot of oddball used parts from them.

I have a flathead pan, but I believe it is a Merc and a little different than a Ford. Dipstick tube is good but there is a tiny hole in the bottom that needs to be welded up. It's a later flathead (49-53) pan.

25.00 plus shipping. I'm in NJ. Can send a picture if interested.

Truck pan might be the way to go then, and the added feature of the large clean out is a plus!

Undoubtedly true that it's the best fit, but the cleanouts leak like sieves. With detergent oils, there's no real reason to open the cleanout. I'm running a Merc rear-sump oil pan.

Note also that whatever pan you use, yuo have to use the corresponding oil pickup.
