Windshield Paint before Glass ??
Should I paint the windshield frame before installing the glass ?? I have been reading the posts about how hard the glass is to install and do not want to make it more difficult with a layer of paint.
Thank for your advise, Dan |

Yes. Here is a video of installing glass in a 1934. A little para-cord, some dish soap and a helping hand will make the install easier than you are anticipating.

That video is for a fiberglass street rod with a modern rubber seal.
Probably not much useful info for a stock windshield frame. Wish I could grow a pony tail like the installer. |

Quote:
1) Paint the frame first. There is no way to properly paint it after the seal is installed. I'd suggest window cleaner vs. soap as soap will tend to suds long after the installation is complete. Window cleaner is quite slippery but will not foam. Now, number two and perhaps the most important piece of advice I or anyone can give you: Do NOT under any circumstance grow a pony tail. Unless of course you want to look like a total dork. In that case, go for it.

I painted my frame in the track first. After checking, and rechecking for any burrs. Painted it, put the tape on the glass, and slid them in place on a stock windshield for a 37.

Re: Windshield Paint before Glass ??
One other bit of advice from the guy who sold me the windshield and tape for my '39 p/u: DO NOT use WD40 for a lubricant when installing. Use only windshield cleaner, i.e. Windex.
