Thanks for the reference but I am looking for a converter not an inverter. I want to convert +6v DC to -12v DC not AC. An inverter converts a square wave source to a sine wave.

Sort of expensive but this looks like it would do what you want...

If you want to build it yourself, this site has instructions:

Let us look towards our vendors to see what they have;

Here we go;"SIX TO TWELVE VOLT INVERTER - 2.5 AMP -
2.5 AMP output for radio with CD or tape. This higher amp is also required for CB's".

Or you can put a small 12V battery behind the seat and recharge occasionally.

I use a battery Jump Box. It has 12v DC 120 AC, air pump and a light. I connect a 10" extension (With 3 heads)to the box and run it under the seat to the fire wall. I plug in my GPS, phone charger and have an extra hole for whatever. The box sets on the rumble floor. I used this in June on a 2,952 mile trip and only charged it once in the Hotel at French Lick. This is simple and doesn't require any special wiring and gives multiple options. Total cost $59.00 and I can use it for other applications when not touring.
