will a v8 starter (single post) work in a model A? do they spin in the same direction?

Isn't the V8 starter mounted on the rear side of the flywheel, so it would have to turn the other direction.

I believe they spin in the same direction They can be made to work but I always considered it to be a project for someone that had a lot of time on their hands. Check the archives. See http://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showth...ght=v8+starter My advice would be to stick with the Model A starter.

Why would you try and reinvent the wheel?
Fix the A starter and be done.
