Default Clear distributor cap

Anyone ever use a clear distributor cap for trouble shooting?

I made my own from a sheet of 3/8" lexan. Works great and will last a lifetime. I used a MoPar alternator brush for the center carbon.

Haha, I had to laugh at this because seriously Tom Wesenberg never disappoints as the master of ingenuity on this forum. I think if he lived in the Model A era he would be known the world over for the best farmer fixes that WORK. Mechanics would all be ticked off because people would be saying "the ford garage wanted two dollars to get my car back on the road and Tom fixed it with some bailing twine and a gum wrapper laying on the road for free!" If anyone does a great race, TAKE THIS GUY!

I have a clear cap on one of my Model A's now. You could buy these at the reproduction parts dealers back in the early 1990's. They give a great view of what is going on in the distributor. You can even use the clear cap as a replacement cap on your Model A. It is made exactly like a black reproduction cap but is clear plastic.

I want one! There is one on eBay right now, but the bid is up to $37 or more last I looked. That is just to much for me. I like odd-ball, off-the-wall accessories, but not if they have some ridiculous price on them.

Here is a cut away regular cap. Works great when you are in the shop or on the side of the road and cost way less.

There was one on my car for years. It's a pretty cool thing to watch in the dark. But one side of it melted a little bit causing it to have a little hole on the edge. I replaced it with a regular cap so water wouldn't get in it

If you are not into fabricating this yourself, NuRex sells one already done for you.

I think it was back on the "other" board that discussion got onto an entirely 'glass' distributor. It would be neat to see all the connections inside.

So when is someone going to start making these things again?!?! There is obviously still a demand if there were 24 bids and someone was willing to pay $150!!

Another one going for Buy Now $150.00 just shows how jack up the price by the previous bidder has helped this one to go for 150.

Exact same cap I have on my Model A. I think I paid $4.99 new for it. Heck, you could make a brand new one yourself for about $2. Unbelievable!
