Default Six to twelve volt conversion

I am new to Ford T's and need some help. I was told it is simply a matter of changing bulbs, condenser, and coil to operate on 12 volts ( I have a distributer conversion). I was told the current generator will charge a twelve volt battery. Is this true? Sounds kind of iffy to me. Advice??

Is there a problem that you are fixing by switching to 12 volts?

It is more trouble than it is worth unless you are needing to install modern electronics.

thanks for your response. I'm finding out that it might not be worth the effort to switch. I just thought it would be a better way to go. Guess not, Don.

The generator doesn't care what voltage you use. It will output up to a couple of volts above the field voltage. What does matter is that you will cut the available charging current in half too. The T generator should be limited to about 100W maximum output and about 75% of that for continuous output. At 7.4 volts, that gives you about 10A at the generous end. At 14 volts, you're limited to about 5A. I wouldn't use either setting unless you're using a voltage regulator to keep from boiling your battery.
