My dad must have had some fond memories of riding in a rumble seat. He had a story about riding in one with a lady friend under a blanket to keep warm. He would tell the story with a twinkle in his eye. It took me until I became a teenager to get the full meaning of his story.

While my sport coupe has driver /passenger restraints I have yet to apply them to the rumble seat & always an adult is seated with the grandkids, my biggest concern is a distracted driver resulting in a rear end collision. As of this time normally have only given rides in our rural addition which consists of country lanes with one exit to a frontage road then on to the highway; the few times we have ventured to a neighboring addition I always wait for a clear break in traffic to & from assuring no vehicles behind.

That is certainly a concern but I'm it sure that being rear ended in a rumble seat isn't much more risky than being rear ended in the back seat of a sedan.Either way there is VERY little between the passenger and the offending bumper.

I have seat belts in my A's
A Rumble Seat is cool ,adults can make their own decisions concerning their safety.
Children should not!
Keep them inside and belted in!
IMHO
