Default 1930 Grill shell "FORD" emblem removal

The 1930 grill shell emblem, (The Blue oval "FORD") seems to be a press fit into the top hole using a round "plug" type fastener.

Good ways to pop it out? Could not find anything using the Search feature.

Thank you!

Larry

I made some removers for the emblems (all sold out) by taking some chrome plated brass pipe and turning a 45* lip on the end such that the tall edge was on the outside. I then turned the pipe outside diameter to just slip through the shell hole. This way you'd tap on the pipe and just the outside edge would push against the retainer to pop the emblem free without doing any damage to the retainer. Oil it first.

Some just use a socket and tap the back with that.

As mentioned above, find a socket that fits the back, hit the socket with a mallet, make sure your other hand is in front to catch the emblem. It should come off fairly easy. I was told this trick by an experienced restorer.

I can vouch for the tool Tom made. It works great! The theory is excellent in that the tool only touches the very outside where the pressure is. A socket might work, but it will put pressure in the wrong place, toward the middle of the emblem. Tom, removed emblems from two of my shells in about a minute with no damage to the shell or emblem. Tom donated one of his tools to our club's tool loaner program for members of the club to use.

lets make this Cheap and easy
any 1/2" pvc coupler,Tee ,or elbow will work (i just happened to have a tee)
its the PERFECT size,no alterations
1/2" pvc pipe is too small,it has to be a coupler
put it in the back side and tap with a hammer
usually on a rug or grass
it will come tight out with no damage every time
it will also remove the tack welded 31 emblems out with no damage

Ditto the above, socket and persuasion work fine.

Push it in, should go in with hand pressure.
