Re: 81A Big A Heads
One thing us 'Flathead Guys' have learned over the years is that having a consistent .040 or so squish over the piston is key for turbulence and overall performance. It doesn't matter if it is a Harley KR, a Cadillac or a Ford flathead . . . same deal with all of them.

Re: 81A Big A Heads
[QUOTE=Bored&Stroked;2046702]There is also a very rare 81AS head - which a friend of mine from Finland has a set of. They are a special high-compression design - and look just about the same as most of our aftermarket chambers (like Edelbrock, Navarro, etc).
I'd love to find a set of these . . . well, just because . . . Yeah, good luck in your search! I had found a pair at Hershey many years ago. NOS and aluminum to top it off. That (aluminum) made them even more rare. Paid an insane price for them but needed them for a at that time future restoration of a very rare '40 Ford Convertible Coupe.

On that '40 the fan with short extension will be mounted directly to the end of the crankshaft. If you look very closely I believe the tip of a blade can be seen near the distributor. Terry
