Radiator for '41 Coupe

The truck radiator which was wedged into the car when I bought it was weeping, so I replaced it with a fine looking Champion aluminum radiator, which was totally not up to the job of cooling the 284" higher compression engine.

Band aid the truck radiator and put it back in. Held on for about a year and a half, but seeping again. Cost to re-core is $800+, so I am thinking, - might as well get a new radiator. Ouch!

Walker shows 1941 car radiators as a unique model, and does not make them with flathead configuration hose connections.

US Radiator makes a more efficient 4 row core that shows fitting '39 - '41. Will any '39 - 40 radiator bolt into a '41?

Are we okay with US Radiator?

I had a Walker in my '41 fordor and worked great with SBF. I heard Walker is out of business. I found no one that makes a radiator "exactly" like a '41. Mine was angled off at the front of the top tank corners at a 45 deg. all depends if originality is a must. I have an aluminum rad in my '60 and works great. some have good luck, some don't

Do not need original look.
Has anybody had success with US Radiator.
How about Cold Case. Made in USA. They claim their 2 row is more efficient than competing 3 and 4 row radiators.

Never heard of cold case radiators, but looked them up. They say their radiators have two rows of 1 1/4" tubes. I had a Griffin with the same tubes in my '40 with a 302. I had a thermostat controlled fan and it almost never came on.

Griffin said that the cooling comes from fin contact with the tubes and the wider tube allows for much more fin contact. Made a believer out of me. 3/4" copper/brass is the widest I have heard of. My '38 radiator has 1/2" tubes.

Check out ur dimensions & check around as most give specs showing H X W & rows. I’d think any listed for ‘39, ‘40 or ‘41 will work. Most I’ve seen in various sites run from $200 to $500 in aluminum depending on number of rows for extra cooling & obviously quality! I bought from Brassworks & they custom made one for my ‘35 with 4 rows for approx. $800 about the same as to rebuild your current radiator The Brass Works builds a very high quality radiator in solid brass & copper https://thebrassworks.net/ you tell them exactly what you want, a totally stock config or with extra cooling rows engineered like original or pressurized that will fit stock mounts. Stock engine? My larger displacement engine (284") generates more heat and has thinner cylinder walls, which increases heat transfer to the water jacket.

I have recently spoken with both US Radiator (http://www.coolcraft.com/) and BrassWorks (https://thebrassworks.net/)

Both are brass/copper construction. look at the websites, both configure to your specs.

I would have considered BrassWorks, but they are 10 or more weeks out, and the U.S. Radiator spec did not fit my requirement, (1936 Ford orig config)

U.S. Radiator quoted a 2-3 week turnaround.

Check out their sites. There are also many aluminum alternatives.

Brassworks may be weeks out but worth the wait. Have a 4 row in my '39 p/u with an 8ba. Lee will work with you for your particular requirements. You won't be disappointed, IMO.

Drolston, don’t think your reading posts complete. Brassworks Will built what ever you want! From totally stock spec to 4 row for 500 HP. ( not sying I have 500 HP, not even close) But Lee worked with me, I have a modified 8BA perf’d up a bit & he made me a 4 row & made the tank similar to what a ‘35 looks like but w clearance room for the Gen / fan. Like 51504bat said Lee will do wat you want. Customized mine & still came in @ about $800.

Walker distributor for 20 years, my go to choice now is Brassworks, worth the wait.
