Default A400 on ebay

I was just looking at a 400a on ebay and noticed the sed bowl , why is it suspended out that far? Is that something with these cars only or a owner mod?

The shut off looks right to me. The remains of a wiper hookup make it hard to see. The carb should have a sediment bowl/filter where the gas line hooks to it.

It a 400A ..... $35,000.00 is not a bad price for that car.... if you really want a " 400A ". Yes there are a few things wrong with the car but its a nice looking driver. Nothing that can not be fixed over a week time??? floor steering plate , correct carb. set up ..and if you really want to get crazy [ remove the head and put the correct head studs in.]Most of what i see the stud does not clear the top of the nut,,,comes up short .NO vaccum setup for wiper...but i bet he went electric.???

Y'all are nit-picking the shit out of a nice car. It's an indented fire wall, but my guess is he had the zenith sitting on the shelf, and decided not to spend the time or money (a lot more money) for a correct side bowl carb. The gas line and bowl are nicely done. One of the nicer conversions I've seen for people who put a glass bowl on a indented fire wall. 35-40k is a good price for this car. It's one of the nice A400's I've seen on eBay. Not everybody is gonna build a "correct car" and as far as I know no one that has posted scored a perfect score in fine point judging with their cars, so no need to critisize someone else's nice restoration. But i know several of you have gotten really close. I like the car and if I had that money to blow I'd consider buying it. There's my $.02

I agree with Logan and Steve, Peter, ... it's a nice looking straight... original looking 400A... Everything that is wrong is easily corrected.. .Is there one out there ( other than Peters Phaeton - Ive seen it, it's perfect) that doesn't need something? I agree.. if you were in the market for one it's a fari price at $35-40K.... in the same ballpark with other rare body styles of that quality. Personally I like something like the slant window cabriolet... but the photos of that 400A get me going too! The rare body styles are all a higher dollar... and understandably so.

Hopefully someone ends up with it that will do it justice... and take care of it for what it is.

I am glad at least some of you liked the car. Mine was the last bid at 35,100. And did not make reserve. It was not perfect but a pretty nice one of the less than 5000 ever built. Mayby someday.

Question Re: A400 on ebay

I'd trade my '29 "Sport" roadster {see avatar} plus some cash for it!

What is it like to sit in one? I'm 6 ft., 230 lbs. and pretty cramped
in the '29 roadster.

I hear the '30-'31 two door deluxe phaeton is a "tight" fit.

Well i had a 30 Standard roadster and one of the reasons i sold it was i wanted a open car with more room and that was a 1930 / Deluxe phaeton. Not much more but the front buckets are adjustable. Now my belly does not come close to hitting the steering wheel.

I would try the $35,100 again and see what happens.

What it really needs is an F150 OD, AC & a Weber Carb

I've been in contact with seller there is no reserve and I have his phone number if someone want to contact him after the auction ends. (His request not mine)

Interesting - I found another Harrahs for sale

http://www.hotrodhotline.com/classif...hp?a=2&b=43585

No idea what the difference would be between the two - maybe the former Harrahs guy may remember it.

It is a nice looking car I was just wandering on the bowl as I couldn't figure out what was going on with it. The wrong parts would be easy to fix and it seems fairly priced. The only thing that would bother me is the serial number being a-469768. On the card in the pic. That I could see being a problem if any issues arose.

I think it is the same car. How many 400A from Harrah's could exist-especially two that have rear mounted spares behind a trunk? Also, I checked my old Harrah vehicle listing and only one 400A was listed in the collection. I think the hotrodhotline ad must be an old ad and the car has been cleaned up a lot (and maybe a new top?) and is being resold again by another owner.

Still a great car and reasonably priced.

I really like the looks of the eBay 400A. NOT a nit picker, I just think it looks nice, but I do have a question for the experts. Is it the color, or angles of the photos, that makes the top look more pleasing to my eye than others? Has the rear top bow been modified or lowered? Of all the 400A's I've seen live or in photos this one looks the best IMO. Bob
