Default The two schools of Fuel consumption: high 'n' low

In recent threads, I notice that Model A drivers seem to be divided into two groups: those whose cars get 20 or more MPG, and those that get 15 or less MPG.

I'm in the low mileage group. My Tudor has a fresh motor (0.120" over, new valves, new bearings, original cam and head). It's smooth as all getout, torquey, zippy, I absolutely love the power delivery. It consistently gets right around 15 mpg, and I've been keeping records for years on it. I have a hard time believing it's carburation: When I carefully rebuilt the Zenith: no change. When I installed a NIB Tillotson: no change. I'm baffled. Worn cam? But the motor runs so well. What else could it be?

I find my mileage varies a lot between a highway cruise vs driving around town, with lots of stop and go driving. My1930 Town Sedan with Mitchell OD, Snyder HC head, otherwise stock, gets an honest 18-20 when cruising on the interstates at 60 mph, but it drops to about 14-15 in town.
