16" Wheel Identification Help Needed
I'm hoping someone can help me identify these 16" rims I took off my '32 RPU.
I have 5 matching, and 1 oddball. Pics 1-4 are of one of the set of 5 matching wheels. These are 4" wide (inside measurement where tire bead seals), and the center well is slightly offset--straight on one side and sloping on the other. There are 5 spring clips around the center for the hubcap. Pics 5-7 are of the oddball wheel. It is 4-1/2" wide, and the center well walls are straight down. This wheel has different style clips for a hubcap. Any info on year/model is appreciated. As an aside, when I had the old tires stripped off these rims, I asked for the tubes back. The three I got held air in the tires, but had between 5-8 patches each! Two were Firestone, the other Goodyear. Probably later 1950s/early 1960s vintage at the newest. Impressive for 55-year-old rubber!

I don't believe that any of these wheels are Ford. Ford never added Hubcap Retaining Clips like on these wheels.

Re: 16" Wheel Identification Help Needed
I was thinking the same - not aware of any clips like that on Ford wheels.

I have some '35 Mopar wheels, with the same style hubcap clips as in photo #5....

Hmmmmmm........! ONLY difference I see is the lack of the four slots on your wheel where center meets hoop.
YOUR wheel...... 1941 LINCOLN wheel below....... Last edited by V8COOPMAN; 01-26-2017 at 01:15 PM. |

GM, Mopar and Studebaker preferred spring clips for hub cap attachment as did Ford '36-39. If the wheels are 5 on 5.5 that could suggest that they are Ford, however, some Mopars used 5 on 5.5..

Re: 16" Wheel Identification Help Needed
If you can find numbers on them I'll look them up for you. Budd and Motor Wheel stamped numbers, K-H did not. Stu

Re: 16" Wheel Identification Help Needed
I think some Early Lincolns models thru the 1940's used the
hubcap clips, and the Lincoln would have the 5 lug, 5.5" bolt circle. .

V8Coopman was correct in saying that the forties Lincolns had hubcap retaining clips. This photo is of a 1946 Lincoln Convertible, and you can see the attached retaining clips. |
