Default Electric wiper motor rebuilder?

All - I have what appears to be the original Heinz Model HA-C2 electric wiper for my '30 Town Sedan. I pulled it out and connected it to 6V, it cycled a couple of times and then stopped in a cloud of smoke. I sent it out to a guy who specializes in electric wipers for old cars, and he says that the armature needs rewinding but that it's an oddball armature with seven poles that he's not familiar with.

Do any of you fine folks have a referral to someone who could rewind this armature? Or maybe a diagram showing how a seven-pole armature would be wired?

Thanks in advance. I did do a search on the Barn but didn't find anything too helpful other than "replace the old motor with an aftermarket", which I will reluctantly do if I simply cannot get the old one repaired. And armature windings is way, way out of my competency.

John Holland in Ohio used to rebuild electric wiper, He did 2 of mind and they turned out well. I believe he still rebuilds them, but he did my last one about 5 years ago, so it was a while back.

John Holland 330-483-3896 (Ohio) Don't know if the phone is still good.
Also new smoke may help.

But you should only use smoke made in USA specifically for Model As, not England (Lucas). Metric smoke does not fit correctly and may leak back out.

Any armature can be rewound regardless of the number of poles or commutator segments but it has to be rewound with the same size gauge of magnet wire. Condition of the center spindle that has the bearing surfaces and the condition of the commutator are a key factors in how easy it will be to restore it.

Condition of the field windings and brushes are just as important. Tests can be done with a multi meter. Growlers are generally made for larger armature testing but there are other ways an armature can be tested for insulation break down.

Folks that rebuild motorized horns may also be able to do something with the wipers. This fellow has an add for horn & wiper armature repairs on the MARC site.

I've not done any business with him so I can't vouch for his capability.

Thanks for all the help, folks. I got in touch with Jim Diehl, had a great conversation (go Niners, boo Rams - maybe next year?) and he's going to take a look at it.
