Default Color Schemes

Aloha,
Will need to repaint the car in the near future. Would love to see photos of your car and the color you painted them. I am not looking to make a show car, and will probably not keep the original colors.

This is for a 1930 Deluxe Roadster,...but it gives you some visual differences

Welcome to Fordbarn!!

Your comment about original colors is understandable as it seems there are many Model-A's out there with 'close but not the correct color' paint jobs on them. Generally speaking, I say go with what you like however understand that non-original colors usually detract from the selling price when that time comes. Not always, but the majority of the time.

If you can tell us what basic color you like, we can help you with pictures however if we posted a picture of Vagabond & Rock Moss green only to find out you don't like greens, we are wasting our efforts. Your car appears to be Rose Beige & Seal Brown presently, ...and originally there was Andulusite Blue, and several variations of Browns (Thorn, Mountain, and Rose Beige), the Vagabond Green, and Black. Does any of those strike your fancy?

According to the paperwork my father-in-law had with the car from when it was painted in 1977 the colors were Chicle Drab and Copra Drab, based on my research these colors were a little more grayish than the tan and green that are on my car 30 Deluxe.....that said I have seen pics of other 30's on the interweb that look like mine....so who knows?

Bottom line is I really like this color combo....

Aloha: What island are you on ? We visit Maui each year either Hana, Kaanapali or Wailea. As you can see, my 29 is a deep red with black. Not an original color pair but it sure does get a lot of thumbs up. Bill

aloha,
I am on Oahu, and I am thinking more in the lighter color, maybe tan and black. But maybe by seeing your different color I might go with another combination.

It's 2014, are there paint formulas that the "EXPERTS" will accept as proper even good enough for "Fine Point" restorations? Are they a guarded secret or can the common folk have access to the codes. Bob

I think you have a very nice car and I do like the ROSE BEIGE AND SEAL BROWN colors and yes to ORANGE WHEELS. keep the colors for a while , you will notice your car will stand out wherever you are and people will like it and take pictures. I think you will really enjoy these colors the longer you keep them. have fun modelAtony tony white Lafayette, LA

Aloha,
Good point, at first I did not really car about the brown color, but it has grown on me. However I am not sure I want to spend the $500 + a quart for the original color, but might get a modern paint that is close.
Any brand of paint better than others ?

Even though Rose Beige & Seal Brown are my least favorite of color choices for 1929, if my 29 Tudor looked that good I wouldn't repaint it. Actually those are the original colors under the puke green someone painted my 29 Tudor. I would live with your present color for a while, then see if you still want to change colors, which can be a lot of work and expense.

The "CODES" are under lock & Key.. Depending on the color you want, it cost`s BIG $$$..

X2. I'd be proud to drive that car. You lose a lot of time you could be enjoying the car on the road when you take it apart to paint it. Good Luck!

Aloha,
The car looks good from far, but far from good. The hood is pickled with some small rust spots, and parts some paint chips are coming of the doors and other places on the body. Need to do something before the rust takes over. I know, won't be cheap and won't be able to drive the car for awhile.
Please keep posting some photos.

I intend to repaint the body of my car as well, eventually, and so far the plan is to go with black, which -- luckily -- was available for my car's body style back in 1931.

The one thing I dread the most is to remove the body from the chassis, and make a wooden jig for it, on which I will transport it to the paint shop. If you change colors, you'll have to paint the underside as well, so taping ain't gonna do it. Nothing is worse than a car with different colors top and bottom, so keep that in mind.

If you do it, you should try do it right. There's a lot of nice stock colors available for Model A's, and I'm sure you'll find one you'll like. Any derivation from stock will hurt the car's value, and even if you won't feel the impact of it, your heir trying to sell you car will. Don't allow them to taint your memory by having to answer "why the hell . . . ?" questions of potential buyers with "because he was a friggin' &^%$!"
