Default Carpet Caper

Thinking about replacing the old rubber mats in the 31 Tudor with carpet. Welcome recommendations and insight on color, material, and a good source. Should there be an underlayment (like the old mat) or does the carpet go directly on the wooden floorboards ?
Thanx

I used Indoor/Outdoor that I bought from Home Depot. I bought black and then used the old rubber mat as a template. I adjusted the template to resolve some fit issue that the mat exhibited. Cut with a razor knife. I bought black since that matched the interior. Laid an insulated mat (cut using the same template) under it to block some of the heat coming up from the muffler and then laid the carpet on the insulated mat. Tacked it down in a three or four inconspicuous spots. Happy with it so far after six months or so. Maybe cost me $20.

Use the fiber pad (thin) glued to the back of the carpet. Removes from the car easily as one piece. Buy the carpet you like. Auto parts stores sell blacks and browns.
