Default new to me 31 model a truck

hey guys i just got my grandfathers 31 model a truck given to me the thing is in beautiful condition cosmetically expect for needing a good clay bar and wax and chrome polish... now to mechanical, the water pump needs a new packing because its dripping coolant. the brakes are pretty bad one adjuster won't move so i need take all the tires off and check all of them out. the transmission has a leak and so does the rear end. can i get a seal kit for the transmission and rear end? the speedo isn't working but i am putting miles on the truck when i drive it. so i think its just frozen from sitting since 2004. is the fuel tank sealed from the speedo gauge?
i know its a lot of questions but hopefully somebody can help me.

Where do you live? Maybe someone on the board lives nearby and could help you out. You should join a local club if there is one in your area.

Yes, you can remove the speedometer without any gas leaking out of the tank.

Buy Les Andrews' Vols 1 and 3 and join the national clubs. You are beginning a wonderful journey. Post photos, too. Everyone will want to see what your baby looks like.

Also pick up the owners manual reprint and the service bulletins sold by the vendors.

Get catalogs from vendors near you. Look here to see the close ones to save on shipping.

DO ONE THING AT A TIME!!!! Don't take everything apart at once. Fix the things one at a time. Did I mention one thing at a time?

Welcome to the addiction. The water pump can be rebuilt or you can buy a 'leakless' one. Yes you can buy seal kits for the tranny and rear end but unless they are leaking badly (I am assuming they are in good working order here) I would put them off until later. Brakes-plan on pulling all four drums and doing a complete rebuild. Unless, you know exactly what was put in them, assume they are bad. Once she is safe to drive, drive the dickens out of her and get to know her. Later this year around August when the snow blankets your area you can take her apart to fix her As for MACs, I have not heard good things about them. I have not used them and they are on this forum and fielding questions. So I assume they are trying to turn their image and shop around.

Welcome! The advice on joining a local chapter is great. You will find people with knowledge and a willingness to help. Check out MAFCA.com there is a place to see a list of chapters by state. That will give you a contact point.

You can remove the dash cluster without gas coming out. The only guage that "seals" the tank is the fuel guage. You'll want to drain the tank below half if you ever want to remove the fuel guage.

If the odometer is counting up, but speedo is not tracking, than the speedo will need rebuilt/replaced. If the odometer doesn't work, I would suggest that maybe the drive mechanism would need inspected.

oh she is more than safe to drive as of right now just the brake doesn't work quiet as well as i want it too.. but i got the speedo working it seems as when the dash is too tight the speedo won't work???? i just left it a little loose and it works perfectly. as for the trans and axle its not leaking to bad quiet yet but she is going to get alot of tlc this winter.. and this wasn't like sitting in a barn neglected. she if fully restored and in good working order other than some simple stupid things. but my grandpa said the water pump is fine but I'm going to order on of the leakless water pump and call it a day. iv gotten a lot of parts from macs since they are in ny its good for me

The quality of the part and service is more important than location.

You don't have to buy a new water pump. Just add some packing, hit it with grease and forget about it.
