stamped # y-block? not cast in,what are they?
There is some # ? on a few of my Y-blocks stamped in on the front lip left side of vallycover, I don't know what they are?
I took the time to clean them so I could ask,one of the blocks has 2B1 E 5<but "E" is backword, another has 91V7,and my last one has 29G04=these are not cast in but stamped on the vallycover lip. The're the only stamped # I have ever seen on "Y",I understand that Y-blocks have no vin # stamped on them,so what are these things? |

They do have factory cast part numbers also, correct ? I would suspect the stamped numbers are rebuilders or company fleet ID's.

Re: stamped # y-block? not cast in,what are they?
Yes,thanks, do have the cast numbers, cast in to the side of blocks, but what I'm asking about is "stamped" number#? There too clean an neatly done for rebuilders,I'm thinking the're Ford but I don't fine any info from my hunt so far. They are stamped on the left front of vallycover gasket flat of block and do show with the cover in place
I never had payed any adtenion to them before,to EZ to over look. |

Dana, I've also read somewhere that a stamp in that location is the motors assembly date. Here is a link to decode it. http://fordclassics.com/date-codes
Unfortunately the codes you mentioned don't seem to fit into this decoder. Any info you have on the origin of your blocks may give some other members a clue to help advise you. Are these in cars, trucks, or are they blocks you recovered from scrapyards?

Re: stamped # y-block? not cast in,what are they?
Thanks for the info.
I've had many "Y"s over the years,a motor a like a lot an also raced for a time, was the first motor I picked to build a hotrod with back in 1959,so there are still 4 of them in the back my garage and one in my old hotrod,I don't remeber were they all came from, way too many all sizes, used up all the 312's years ago, would love to get another but there out of my piggybank $ now. Just had never payed any mind to these stamped# before. |
