Default follow up on Hagerty

just to let you folks know, I cancelled my JC Taylor and it took over 2 months to get a refund for my renewal fee. Had to keep writing them for a refund and, was told it was coming, sorry, someone forgot. the dog ate the paper....
ok the last one was an exaggeration.

Went to Hagerty, online and had insurance in 10 minutes. sold one of the cars and had an immed refund on my chg card for the balance of the yr paid.

so glad I made the switch. Thought JC was the cats meow and wow, was I wrong...... Hagerty it is.

We canceled our policy with J. C. Taylor in early May when we sold our last Model A.

Received refund check within two weeks. I was surprised. It was only for one month that we had left on the policy. I really didn’t think I would get a refund.

I have used J. C. Taylor for over 40 years. Never a problem, but I also never had a claim.

Sorry to hear RONN’s problem.

Don't forget to check on Hagerty's "cherished salvage" coverage.
Should the worst happen and they have to pay out for the vehicle being a total loss you keep what remains of it

I've had Hagerty for several years on the wife's 2004 Thunderbird. I was surprised how cheap it was to add the A. They also have a policy for cars undergoing restoration that even covers uninstalled parts on the shelf.

Mike, frankly they seem about the same as JC.

JC always had good rates, but of course, I never had a claim.
Maybe I just happened to have issues with them and others, as mentioned did fine.
My problems began with them not wanting to insure my truck, but I found service to be less than adequate as well. I would be concerned if I needed to make a claim, at this point
with the difficulty of getting any response to my refund.
Anyway, I really prefer the service Ive recd at Hagerty. online is easy to negotiate and calling was a pleasure. Cancelation was immediate. In the past with JC, if I wanted to cancel a car on my policy, they made me send them a letter, attesting to that. A bit antiquated in this day and age.

Ronn: If the rates are about the same, then I'm going to switch over to Hagerty this spring at renewal time.
30 years with JC Taylor, no claims, and they stuck their noses up at a 30 Tudor I wanted to insure for liability last summer. No collision. Yeah, I'm done as well.

This is the car that JC Taylor refused to insure last summer. I was insulted. These photos were taken just after I installed a new top. The photos I sent JC Taylor were taken BEFORE I installed the top, but so what? It runs and stops. Still insulted.
This car is what Model A's looked like back in the day when folks drove them to work, to town shopping at the FW Woolworth store. This is who we were back then, and they won' insure this car. Still angry. Going to Hagerty this spring.

Hagerty doesn't do stand alone liability.You have to buy the comprehensive.BUT,it is cheap.I had a Tudor that is almost a twin to yours insured with them for about 15 years.I had been with them for years,had 3 other cars with them at the same time,and they never even asked for a picture.

Anyone know how the Hagerty service is now that S/F owns 15% of them? Hagery laid off 103 people last week - first time I ever heard of that happening.

At least some of you have an option. Hagerty won't write policies in Louisiana anymore. I guess it is because every commercial on TV is an injury lawyer in our state. I've had J.C. Taylor for years but I also have never had to make a claim.....and hope I don't ever.

well Mike, your car looks like most I own. that condition is my preference. I like nice running cars with character. same with people...... if youre too shiney, your not for me.

Gene- to answer your question from my end, I was on the phone this past week, cancelling the car I sold. They picked up right away, handled my inquiry quickly and I saw the credit to my card on the same day. with the other outfit, was constantly waiting and wondering.
Todd, Im quite surprised and wonder if it isnt more then that, here in the NJ area, there are more lawyers then doctors and they insure our state. I am not well advised on the insurance industry, but I certainly know when Im treated well or not as a consumer.

If you look at your invoice, it is a fee you can ignore. However, it gives you extended towing mileage as well as a first rate magazine six times a year.

In my opinion, one should compare what's insured and the usage restrictions. Also important is the coverage for out of state incidents, and medical coverage for passengers. Do a side by side between JC Taylor, Hagerty and Grundy to see which one fits you best. Making a decision on customer service alone is a poor practice.

I've been nothing but pleased with Hagerty for my Model As. Only glitch I had was when I added my '31 to the existing policy for my '30 and they asked where the car would be stored, I told them a pole barn (which is what I have in my driveway). They didn't like that, so I told them I'd put it in the garage. They asked for a picture of the car in the garage to prove to them I was serious (okay, I can see that). No problem, did it and away we go.

I put my '30 non-operational (no liability or collision, comp only) when I started taking it apart. Not a peep. Previously I've had all my insurance with State Farm, and when I put a motorcycle non-op to restore State Farm demanded that I update the liability on my homeowners (huh?) - not insubstantial and totally unnecessary, considering that I already had an umbrella high liability policy covering everything including vehicles. BS, cancelled the entire policy.
