Default Looking for assembly reference

I am pretty much going to be building the whole roadster body and repairing a lot. To add to that there is some stuff missing currently that will have to be replaced. What kind of books or other info is there out there? For example, should piece "a" be welded or riveted? I bought and returned a couple books claiming that they covered all restoration but to have them only cover basic mechanical stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Which ones did you buy (& return)?

I would have to check eBay. I remember one of them being blue hard cover with gold lettering. It was a few months ago.

You might check out Les Pearson's book: "The Complete Model 'A' Ford Restoration Manual" available from Mike's A-Ford-Able and probably others. You would have to make allowances for your particular body style, and the fact that the illustrations show RHD, but it is very complete.

If the blue cover with gold lettering was a copy of The Service Bulletins, you should have kept it. Every Model A owner should have a copy of this in his or her library.

He's probably talking about this book.

That was it. It looked like a great book but not what I was looking for.

there is very little, nothing actually, relating to body panel replacement in any books I have seen, with the exception of instructions on how to change from a trunk to a rumble and vice-versa. this blog is your best source for information about specific issues like what gets riveted, you would have to do a search.

if you give us a very specific question about an issue you are having, we'll be better able to guide you.

You are not going to find a written manual on how to assembly a Roadster like Ford did.

The best thing is this site. Post your specific assemble question here.

There are books that can help with the rebuild of specific assemblies like the book you returned, Andrews red book, restoration guidelines.

I can't see the pictures where I am (firewall) but I think this will help as well.

Even if you're NOT building a High Points car, it's rewarding to do it as near to ORIGINAL as you can!

try to get a copy of the book. THE FORD MODEL A, by De Angeles, Henry, Francis. There are photos of cars, bodies in white, chassis, assembly line, etc. A magnifier can sometimes pick out little details.

Thanks for the info. I saved that link Mike V. I save pictures and try to get pictures whenever possible. Kinda in the planning and getting as much info as possible stage right now. Going to be starting this summer probably.

I agree that this is probably one of the best single books there is to own.
I'd also get:
Parts books from the Model A parts houses, Bert's, Bratton's, Snyder's, etc.
SERVICE BULLETINS
Owner's Manual
Judging Standards
There are a few others I can't think of at the moment.
Joining a club and hanging out with someone restoring a car is also a big help.
Attending the nation meets and taking lots of detail pictures from high points cars and from original unrestored cars is one of the best helps.

If your in a geographic area where Brookville displays their bodies at shows, take a lot of photos of them. Lots of opportunity to see what is usually out of sight.
