Default Kwik Way brake shoe arcing machine

Hi all.

I have a Kwik Way brake shoe arcing machine and am trying to obtain more information about it . Having searched google , eBay , Kwik Way online and Ford Barn the only information I can get is that it appears to be model BA that as per an online flyer may have been sold together with a brake drum machine model BD. Are any of you familiar with this or these units and does anyone have an owner's manual or are aware of any accessory parts that came with it. ( my pictures would not upload so I have attached the only online picture available)

Any help is appreciated.

Regards.

John

These were common back in the day, I used one starting in 1964. There should be a bag attached to collect the dust from grinding the shoes. We would mic the drum, subtract about .015" from that measurement and grind the shoes to that size. The .015" was to insure clearance between the drum and the shoes. Always wear a mask as the bag only does a so-so job.

If you can't locate the operators manual, try "Ammco", very nearly the same as to setup and use. These things weigh a ton, takes two people to move them around. Handy to have, but for as often as you'll use it, it will always be in the way.

Thanks Jim and Russ - I have an adaptor hooked up to my shop vac and vented for the dust. It is heavy and not used often but it looks and feels at home with my Model A and parts.

Do some searching for the parent company. They have to supply you with a manual. Most will send them for free. If you get hurt it's their fault because you didn't know how to operate it. I have gotten manuals for much older machines, just takes a few phone calls and some research.

They are still in business as irontite in Marion Iowa 319 377 9422. Been quite a few years since I have been in the building but they still make valve grinders

IF they can't send you a manual, try over on the Garage Journal or the HAMB. It is amazing what people over there have. I found someone who had a manual for my King Motor Analyzer.

Try DBensavage on ebay, I use a Shepard and Thomason, the setting up is a little different but the operation is the same, there is an on line vendor who sells the sleeves I think it is frictionworksllc.
