Default Leaking Gas Valve

The interior gas valve must be leaking. When I shut it off the car will run out of gas and die, but later, a day or two, I can smell gas and see some on the floor. This valve probably isn't the original, but I don't know. Is it possible that after a few years these can go bad?

It has been my experience that the only thing that causes them to leak as you are suggesting is when some foreign media (dirt, sand, rust, grit) enters the valve and scores the housing or the stem. When there is rust or grit present, it will continue to happen no matter how often you replace the valve. Even an aftermarket stainless ball valve will also leak when the grit is present.

CatMan, there was a recent discussion on the subject. https://www.fordbarn.com/forum/showthread.php?t=325994.

There have been numerous posts about leaking S/O valve

Looks like I'll be looking to put a new one on sometime. Say, where I work we sell X-Pando sealant. Anyone ever try this? Does it work well?

It's quite a few years now since I used one of those Snyders kits to repair a leaky valve on my car. I was fascinated by the lubricating "grease" they supplied in a capsule. I strongly suspect the grease did not only lubricate the valve but it filled any irregularities/scratches in it.
I got to wondering what the grease was. It had to be fuel proof and lubricate. Everything I tried was dissolved by the petrol (gas), even silicone grease. Where else is a water soluble lubricant used I asked myself. Then it hit me.
Wait for it.....

KY jelly.
I haven't tried it (not sure I want my wife to find it!) but I bet some of that will help a leaky valve. Maybe a light lapping with toothpaste first, then a little KY.

Red rubber grease is impervious to gasoline, see: https://www.greasemonkeydirect.com/b...rease-used-for
