Horn problems
The horn on my "31 coupe does not work.
I checked - it is receiving 6 volts of power when the horn button is pushed. I can hear a subtle "click" but the horn motor will not rotate. If I manually rotate the shaft is seems to move easily. Suggestions? |

Re: Horn problems
Back off the adjusting screw a few notches. If it then turns, close it down till you get the sound you want. See that the commutatiors are clean and shiny, and that the brushes are making good contact. Also make sure the felt on the ends of the armature are lightly oiled.

Re: Horn problems
The horn always has 6 volt to it, the ground is through the horn button on the steering wheel.

Re: Horn problems
I've had a similar problem. Turned out the diaphram was dickered. Rebuilt the horn, was cheap and easy to do and sounds great.

Re: Horn problems
Back off the adjustment screw until the motor spins freely. No sound. Assuming it will run when the button is pushed, Let the motor spin for about 15 or 20 seconds. This may loosen things up.

Re: Horn problems
Horn button contact may be crusty. Connect a solid ground to the horn button side of the motor (the side that doesn't burn your fingers). If it spins, you need to clean up the button contact.

Re: Horn problems
I would check the commutator and see if it is dirty. I take a small piece of a scotch-brite pad with a little wd-40 on it and spin the motor by hand while cleaning the commutator.

Re: Horn problems
Pull the cover off and run jumper wires directly from the battery. If it sounds good then you're troubles are elsewhere.
