I use the clear one. You can tell when it needs to be cleaned that way. I really like it.

I seem to recall that the filter cost about &55.00. When they say don't use any caustic coolant as it will deteriorate the clear plastic, believe it.

Well, lets see.....the bottom hose is 1¾, and the top hose is 2". Now, I ordered the one for the 2" since that is where I placed mine, and would recommend that is where you put yours to keep the garbage from entering the radiator. It also makes it easy to clean up there.

About 8" of the toe of a nylon stocking slipped over the radiator inlet before fastening the hose on does the same thing for about a dollar. Just change it out yearly.

I installed one of the clear Gano filters several years ago. The ability to see coolant is an added bonus.

Tom W posted a Caterpillar strainer that will also serve to keep your radiator clean.

in a '49 flathead V8 with a coolant line from each side of the block to the radiator is it necessary to install a Gano filter in each of the two lines?

I just received two from Gano. I ordered the clear, size "large" 1 3/4" to 1 7/8" I.D. They fit inside the upper hose perfectly. They are $42 each. They look to be well made.

You will have only partial coolant filtering with a single screen.
