Advice Needed on Front Spring
Soon I will tackle replacing the front spring on my 1930 pick up. In looking at the old one, it does not appear that the ends of the leaves have been ground/undercut.
Replacement/repo springs from the supply houses do not appear to come undercut. Is it necessary? Rather not take the spring apart and do not have ready access to a bench grinder fit for that job. Thanks in advance. |

Re: Advice Needed on Front Spring
I mean, it helps. These guys sell springs that have been beveled properly.

I beveled a 1" thick x 12" square plate along one edge for use on a log splitter using a 4x24 woodworking belt sander. It took a while but I made reasonable headway. Total time perhaps 2 hours for two sides. And I use a 6x24 stationary sander to sharpen chipper-shredder blades about 6" wide using a special jig to hold the angle. Perhaps 15 minutes per blade to bring it back into usable. I extend the blade life about 5x by this method. (Troybilt SupahTomahawk is no longer supported but blades are available on Ebay from Chalmers Industries.) Joe K
