Default Y-block intake hold down washers

Does anyone have a chart or something to ID which washers are for which engines (272, 292, 312, C, D, E or F code) or how much does it matter?
The unpainted set in the 2nd photo are about 1/2 inch longer than the others.

I did not know there was a difference, I hope it does not matter. I just had a set powder coated to use with an Edelbrock 2x4 intake. I sure don't want to have to scrounge up another set and have then powder coated also.

i have all of them or had them but i never paid any attention as to what they came of.most of the engine i pick up are rebuilds anyway.never saw the thick solid ones on an early engine.

The only ones that I've heard of that were different are the ones for the aluminum 2X4 manifold used in 1957. I really don't know what the difference is, but I'm sure someone on the Ford Barn should know, like maybe Ted Eaton.

~ the ones for the 2x4 manifold are different ~

That's what I've heard too, and I've heard it from more than several sources. I'm just looking for some chart, diagram or book description that has what the difference is.

Why I need to know.... I'm planning on taking a collection of small parts to the national CTCI Thunderbird convention this fall for the swap meet.
Many of the folks there want parts that are *100% OEM correct* for their application, and I don't want to get shot down in flames.

Someone sent me this chart but it shows the '57 washers are all the same.
I was told there's a 'red book' (?) that has the differences listed.

Thank you dmsfrr,

Looking at the chart can get confusing. It looks like there are two different ones for the Ford Y-Block for sure that are two different lengths. For '55 and '56 it looks like 4 barrel manifolds took one length, but a confusing part is that 1957 took the same on all engines. (Maybe forgot about the aluminum 2X4) ?

I would say for practical purposes (not CTCI judging) as long as the clamping edge is sufficiently on the flat of the intake flange, and not too long to hit the radius of the manifold ear, it should work just fine.

"for pratical purposes" - I agree, a good fit is what to have.

"CTCI judging" - this is why I'm looking for better ID info.

I do have 2 different styles, one is more oval. the other has sort of squared edges on the outboard ends away from the hole for the stud I used the oval ones , because I liked the appearance better. both appeared to be the same length, but I am not sure , and I do not have them here at the house to check. I may get a chance to get to them later this week , as they are 50 miles away at my brother shop now.

At least your powder coating in the valley is more reasonable than it is here in the city.

There are at least 5 different styles of hold downs that I know of.

That includeds the holddowns on the big series Mercury engines.

I see my Ford parts books that only two different part numbers are referred to for the "clamps"

Nothing specific for the "E" models ALTHOUGH they are a different and unique critter.

The reference in the "Red Book" (which is the CTCI Restoration Manual by GilBaumgartner) shows on page 177 the differences between the "E" clamp and one of the other style used.

It measures the "E" clamp as approximely 2 1/4 long and the rest as 1 7/8.

I have clamps that measure 2, 2 1/8 and having differing shapes. All from Y Block engines.

The "E" clamps have a specific look to them - sorta oblong / oval and rounded .

I"ll see if I can post a picture later.

Pretty sure those ones pictured on the left (solid cast) are from the last go-around of yblocks. I have them on my 1964 292 in an f100. I know it to be original.
I have had a bunch of others on various engines. My 55 bird has the smaller oval design, but can't honestly say if they are original, even though I've had the car for 50 years.

do you think that the "standard" iron manifold clamps are ok for an aftermarket Aluminum manifold, that is do you think that there is enough clamping surface? I may have to try and track some down for a 2x4 set-up, or maybe make a custom set.

Carl, I find Advance Powder coating to be very reasonable, and they do a great job. I had a set of headers done last year, along with a few other things and when they called for me to come pick them up, they said that they were sorry and that they were not happy with how the headers turned out and wanted to redo the headers because they did not want a reputation for poor work. It is a little bit of a drive from where I live, but at least I don't have to go to Anchorage.

That makes sense. They came in a bucket of bolts & small parts from a fellow with an early 60's pickup.

You might want a dab of anti-sieze or some dielectric grease(?) between the aluminum & cast iron.
Double check the fit. ..I like what Sal said....

The two smaller oval ones in the first photo were on the '54 engine that was in my '55 T-bird retirement project, along with the other two more diamond shaped ones.
The engine was an off-the-wall collection of '54, '55, '57 & '63 parts, so who knows.

i put a 64 intake on yesterday the drivers side would take the long ones but the other side had room for the short only without forcing it.
