Default valve guides and springs

We recently assembled an new A engine, the owner supplied press in guides that were parallel , so required a longer spring, they were for the straight 11/32 valve stem ,these were very nice, but he cant remember where he got them from, would any one know.I have tried the usual suppliers but no luck,

Have you measured the length of the seat face to the retainer lock grooves on the stem to verify the length? You may find you do not need a longer spring. Also, check your spring pressure at installed height and at .300” lift and compare to O.E. spring rates.

I used "Ohio" guides #G880 and Sealed Power Valves "V-1558" over 30 years ago and the motor is still running (getting a rebuild soon) as it is tired. I don't know if those part numbers are still good. I still have a few of each in a box.

The 880 guides are aluminum Buick V8. I had one of these slip down so I found that Mac's had guides that had a "shelf" on them. making them like the originals on the O.D., so the spring holds the guide in place and the spring fits like it should. I think Snyders now sells guides like this?

Jim, the guides that the vendors sell are .002 smaller than the bores in the new engine.
So would like to find a guide like the owner supplied ,but he doesn't remember who supplied them, like I said the came with longer springs to suit not having the flange on them
Thank you for the info, I will check that out

I think AER used to sell a setup like that, don't know if they still have them.

One of them must have been under size, none of mine fit any where close to loose. I used Sealed Power springs "VS-71" and that was over 25 years ago. I'm sure the part numbers came from either the Ford Barn or one of the National Clubs, as I didn't search the info out so it must have been an article in a Model A publication. But had the parts at my finger tips working for Clevite, bought extra and still have some of each. Might use them in my new motor.
