Manifold Broken Stud
I have a broken manifold stud at #3 cylinder. I went to adjust the torque on the studs yesterday for the first time since I have owned this car and as soon as I started to apply some torque the stud came away. The stud is not proud to the engine block, but is into the block by about 1/16".
I have a set of extractors. I have tried to drill a hole with a 5/32" colbalt drill bit, but the drill won't make even a dent in the broken stud. I have also tried to move the stud with a small chisel, but top no avail. I have oxy acetylene, but am very reluctant to use it. Any suggestions will be appreciated. |

Re: Manifold Broken Stud
Find someone with a mig or tig welder, have them weld a washer and nut to the stud, it works very well. DONT drill and easy break!

Big Hammer is right use the weld a washer, then a nut It will come out, it may take a few tries to do it but it will come out.

When you go to remove the nut rock it back and forth with a normal wrench even if its not moving all it takes is a fraction of a micrometer to start turning a hair - then keep soaking in penetrating oil and keep rocking it back and forth not applying alot of torque. as you back it out and it starts getting tight soak some more and run it back in and keep bouncing it out.
