Default Steering Box Leak on 2 Tooth Box

My situation is entirely different from the previous post on the same subject. I have just rebuilt my steering box with a complete kit from Bratton's. I have done all of the adjustments on the bench and reinstalled in car. My box is the early 1930 Gemmer 2 tooth with the 2 19/64" OD gasket between the housing and the sector housing. This arrangement was obviously a problem since the gasket was changed to a larger one with a modification to the housing as well.

I cannot keep oil in the box. I have tried 600W and 1500 oil from Mike's. They both leak badly. The leak is between the box and the sector housing where the above mentioned gasket is. This is very frustrating.

I have thought about using corn head grease in the box, but wanted to get some input here before I do it. I would try Penrite grease/oil but I haven't been able to locate a supplier in Canada.

What say you?

You can try that or also you can find an o-ring and squeeze it between the sector and frame to slow the leak. I did this with no other modification and stopped most of a leak. Did you have the sector housing re-bushed and honed when restoring the box?

I replaced the original sector housing with the one with roller bearings and seal. I bought the new sector housing with bearings etc from Bratton's so I think that it is good quality. The new sector shaft also came from Bratton's.

I had a similar problem but finally found where it was leaking from. It was from around the threads of one of the lower studs that bolt the sector housing to the box. After I Permatexed the threads , all ok.

I have similar to George #5 except top stud even with corn head grease. (Also used in universal joint clamshells). current 600 w ( as in prior posts) is closer to 140 modern lube.
I use 250 wt. in rear end.

I used a oring instead of the cork between the 2 housings, couldn't tell you the application, it was a "pipe rubber" and I chose it from a box of miscellaneous ones, that and the light shaft tube, seal on the sector and it holds gear oil
