Default Galvanizing or Cadmium Plating?

I have a Set of Original Tire Chains for my A, and I want to get them Plated. My question is was Galvanizing around back in the 20's- 30's or should I have these Cadmium Plated. They Chains are in Great shape so I want to protect the metal. Thanks for any input.

All the old farm windmills I've seen had galvanized steel, so it was around back then.
I'd have the chains cad plated, or leave them plain.

The problem with cad is that it is hard to find a plating shop that will do it. Cad is plated from a cyanide solution so polution control is expensive, and therefore most shops won't go through the EPA hassle.
