Re: torque settings
Are you talking about the front spindle bearings and the rear axle nut?

Re: torque settings
Front bearing adjustment, spin drum while snugging nut then back off until free/1 or 2 castles.
Rear hub, 90-100ftlbs then tighten until cotter fits All wheel lug nuts, 50-55 ftlbs |

Re: torque settings
"Rear hub, 90-100ftlbs then tighten until cotter fits" same here.
You will need to pull the rear wheels off a couple of times after driving some and check. Remove the cotter pin, back the nut off and re-torque. It would be a rare case that the rear hubs seats fully the first time. I have seen a number of cars come in the shop that may have been torqued correctly "ONCE" when the hubs were installed, but did not receive follow up care, the axle nuts were no longer tight. Which means the hub(s) were loose on the taper and working the key and key way.

Awhile after that we got a road call for a no start. When I got there [ 318 V8 Detroit diesel] he was already there. The engine was obviously ether bound, the mouth was open and the firewall had the typical bottle of ether, big ass bottle. He was talking to the driver while he was waving the rosebud along the side go the engine block. I just put my hand on the drivers arm and pulled him back away a few seconds before the side of the block let loose knocking the tire right off the wheel and breaking his arm in 3 places. Then I got the honor of taking him to the hospital. I told him thats what he gets for stealing a road call and being stupid. |
